Hey there, I am Marie.
Originally from Luxembourg, I‘m currently doing a masters degree in Jazz and Pop Vocals at ArtEZ in Arnhem, and mostly performing in Luxembourg and Belgium.
I grew up in a house filled with classical music in choir, organ and piano but was drawn to many bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pink Floyd. At age 5, I started to learn the classical piano and sang in many church-, children-, and schoolchoirs. At the age of 14, I started singing as lead- or backgroundsinger of pop coverbands.
After a few years of pop experience, I decided to turn my focus onto jazz music and started my jazz vocals bachelor at the Conservatorium in Maastricht, where I graduated in 2021.
This is me, eight years old, playing the classical piano in my hometown, Clervaux. I have very beautiful memories of these times!
My music is not easy to describe in a few sentences, since it goes from arranging pop/folksongs for amateur- or childrenchoirs over singing funk/fusion/psychedelic originals in the band ‘Between Shelves’, all the way to composing jazzy/melodramatic tunes for my professional a-capella ensemble ‘mata’. In my own projects, I like to open up my thoughts to the audience, using a mix of pop, jazz singer-songwriter style. My stories start from my earliest childhood until last week, whatever occupied my mind back then. The music has always been the main part of it all, but it doesn’t come to me without it’s story.
I am currently co-leading a luxembourg-based funk-fusion-psychedelic band called Between Shelves, such as a female choir in Belgium and a mixed Choir in Luxembourg. Furthermore, I am part of the professional vocal quintet mata from Maastricht and I perform my own music in solo. I am teaching choirs of all ages in workshops and I arrange or write songs for them.
