about me

Marie Weis is a Luxembourgish singer and choir leader based in Cologne and Luxembourg.

She creates and performs music in various styles: flashy neo-funk and jazz with her band Between Shelves, a cappella close-harmony pop with her vocal ensemble mata, and artsy singer-songwriter music with her duo, Painting Birds.

Born in 1998 and growing up with classical and later popular music, Marie Weis’ love for music blossomed through numerous choirs, piano lessons, and cover bands before she studied jazz vocals in Maastricht and Arnhem, finishing her master’s degree in 2023.

During her studies, Marie Weis recorded her own EP, X-RAY THE CACTUS, as well as several other albums with her bands mata and Between Shelves. She has performed on stages such as CUBE521 in Luxembourg, Eurogress in Aachen, Triangel in St. Vith, and at many festivals in the Luxembourg region.

Today, Marie Weis teaches jazz, rock, and pop vocals in Luxembourg, leads two female choirs, and serves as the conductor’s assistant for the Landesjugendchor NRW, while also creating music for her ensembles and keeping her followers up to date with her newsletter.

Marie aims to be an honest performer who allows the audience to see and feel the depth of the words she has written for her songs. Humor is as important as truth, and music flows best when the ego’s armor is dropped.
